Writer's Block

The Essentials. Assigning Blame. Message in a Bottle. Wish Upon a Star. Mindset Leads to Mechanics. I have well over a hundred of these topics started and put aside; a document with over 2700 words that will eventually be used for training. But for now, the words live on a personal document. I once heard a quote from a songwriter who said that writer's block doesn't mean that you aren't writing, it's that what you write doesn't appeal to you. And that's the same thing that happens in your dreams. You have an idea of what you want and how to get there, but nothing seems right to you. Sometimes it comes easy, flowing naturally and the amazing, sometimes deceitful feeling of instant gratification. Other times it feels sluggish and stuck. Yet, if you keep going – keep trying – continue doing the right things long enough and consistently, you'll make it to the next level… and then the next… and the next.

Outcome Bias. The Airport. Bumper Cars. The Thieves. These ideas were all on that document at one time. They lingered there until the right inspiration hit and they were finished. When you look back at your wins, you realize that you really can do it. When you keep trying and keep going, you can push through and make that next step. Jack London once said about writer's block, "You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club."
